Pickleball is a fast-paced, highly engaging racket sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. Played on a badminton-sized court with a slightly lowered net, players use solid paddles to hit a perforated plastic ball back and forth. Its low barrier to entry and fast gameplay make it exceptionally popular for all skill levels.
The sport was created in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, Washington, by Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum. Looking to entertain their families during a quiet summer weekend, they improvised a game using handmade wooden paddles and a perforated plastic ball on an unused badminton court. From those humble backyard beginnings, pickleball has evolved into one of the world's fastest-growing sports.
